What remediation means

The remediation process, stage by stage

1. Moisture and source correction

Nothing downstream holds if the material stays wet. Common sources in Twin Cities homes include plumbing leaks, roof and flashing failures, ice dams, foundation seepage, sump pump failures, high indoor humidity, bath fans discharging into an attic, and condensation on cold surfaces.

Harder structural surfaces can often be cleaned once the affected porous layers are out. Debris is bagged or wrapped inside containment and carried out along a protected route.

5. HEPA vacuuming and detailed cleaning

Remaining surfaces, framing, adjacent horizontal surfaces, the containment itself, and the equipment, are HEPA vacuumed and cleaned to remove settled dust and debris. Ordinary household vacuums are not equivalent and can redistribute fine particulate.

6. Cleaning agents and antimicrobial products

These may be used where appropriate for the material and scope, but they are not a substitute for removing damaged porous material or correcting moisture. A coating should never be applied over active growth, wet material, or incomplete cleaning.

7. Drying

The assembly has to be dry before anything is closed up.
